The new Social Studies curriculum has created a variety of ways to encourage students to share their understandings through written responses. Below are some hint sheets that can help you approach the various types of essays.

It is important for students to be able to self-evaluate in order to reflect on ways they can improve their written expression. Below are the various rubrics for the different essay styles. Students are recommended to take that rubric and put the key ideas in their own words so that they can better self-assess.

Alberta Education will often publish previous essay questions and samples of writing in order to assist students with being able to evaluate the quality of their own writing. By going to this site, a student can see the level of expectation for the various topics.
